Yesterday, I got a call from a contractor while sitting in traffic heading to John's Island.


He said a mutual contact had referred him to us, and he'd heard we do "really good crawl space encapsulations."


My response? "That's not correct. We do the best crawl space encapsulations."


Now, before you think I'm being cocky, let me explain something.


That's not an attitude. It's not even an opinion.


It's a quantifiable fact.


And the contractor on the phone got it immediately.


He said, "Well, I like that attitude."


I told him straight up - it's not attitude, it's measurable reality.

Let's start with what you can actually measure: materials. When we quote a crawl space encapsulation, we're using materials that are 7 to 10 times thicker than every other quote you're going to get. Sometimes even more than that.



Here are the real numbers: The standard in this industry is somewhere between 12 and 20 mil. That's barely thicker than a human hair or two. We're using a two-layer system that totals 146 mil. Our first layer is hard dimple drain mat that literally lifts the crawl space off the ground and keeps water from touching our tape seams. Then we put 120 mil vapor barrier over that.


Why does thickness matter? Because these crawl spaces are held together with tape. As water touches tape, it loses adhesion. Eventually, you've got water pouring into your crawl space, your dehumidifier is running constantly, and the whole system starts falling apart. We've seen newly encapsulated crawl spaces fail in as little as 10 days because they used thin materials with no underlayment.


Our two-layer system with proper drainage keeps water away from those tape seams. That's not opinion - that's basic physics. And it's why our encapsulations last decades instead of years.




Breaking Down "The Best" - Process & Monitoring

Materials are only half the equation. You can have the best products in the world, but if they're installed poorly, you're wasting your money. That's where our process comes in.



First, we make sure we can actually see what we're doing. Sounds basic, right? But we hang overhead lighting in every crawl space because working with headlamps creates shadows and dark spots. You'd be amazed how often we find 10 feet of untaped seams in other companies' work. They just couldn't see what they were missing.


We also follow termite bond laws - leaving a 3-inch gap between wood and wall curtain so inspectors can actually check for termite trails. It's shocking how many companies ignore this and potentially void their customers' termite bonds.


But here's where we really separate ourselves: monitoring. Most companies install a dehumidifier and walk away. That's a problem because the moment that dehumidifier stops working, you've got a dark, sealed space with zero air movement. Add any moisture, and you're growing mold.


We use advanced monitoring systems - the same equipment used in museums and aerospace factories. These monitors sample the air every 3 milliseconds. The exact moment your crawl space exceeds acceptable ranges, you get a text, you get an email, I get a text, I get an email. We all know immediately when something goes wrong. No guessing, no waiting, no hoping everything's okay.

Breaking Down "The Best" - The Warranty That Actually Means Something

This is the big one. This is what separates us from literally every other crawl space company in South Carolina.



Ask any other company about their warranty, and they'll tell you about their 5-year warranty or 25-year warranty or even lifetime warranty. Sounds great, right? But then ask them what exactly they're warranting. Usually, it's the dehumidifier warranty (which we didn't manufacture), or they'll say "materials and workmanship."


Here's the problem: "materials and workmanship" is legal double-talk that means basically nothing. You can't take them to court when it doesn't work. And it doesn't cover the actual point of all this - keeping your wood dry.


We're the only company in South Carolina that warranties what actually matters: the moisture content of your wood. In every customer agreement we send, third paragraph, last line, you'll read this: "We guarantee that the moisture content of the wood in the crawl space will remain at 15% or below. Should it exceed that number, we will fix it for free."


That's measurable. That's enforceable. That's the whole point of a crawl space encapsulation - keeping your subfloors and joists from rotting. And we're the only ones putting our necks on the line to guarantee it.
